Step Up [Aug 2018]

Catherine will be choreographing the Step Up project this year at Dance Limerick. Step Up Dance Project, now in its seventh year, once again plays host to some of Ireland’s most promising contemporary dance graduates. Following a national open call, shortlisted applicants were invited to audition and six dancers were selected to take part in the prestigious programme. The dancers selected are a mix of Irish natives who have travelled abroad to complete their training and seek work and dancers who have trained in Ireland and are now resident here. The selected dancers are Rocio Dominguez, Katrina Galvin, Mintesinot Getachew, Rebecca Lee, Evgenia Sizmina and Kathy Young.  More info


Big Bang Dance Project [June/July 2018] 

This year Catherine with will set an excerpt of "It takes a Village" on a local inner city Dublin cast which will be performed at the Big Bang Festival /Hotter than July - Sunday July 29 in Smithfield Square, joined by members of the original cast. Welcoming the Stranger - The Backstage Theatre, Lonford [Dec 15, 2017]

Catherine will be re-staging her critically acclaimed work Welcoming the Stranger which opened the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine this past April. In this redevelopment of the piece Catherine will be working with people from throughout Longford, locals to the area and those from overseas who have come to call Longford their home. She will bring both communities together through a series of workshops and rehearsals throughout October and November, culminating in a performance in Backstage on Fri 15th December alongside a group of world-class professional dancers and musicians. Tickets

"It takes a Village" - Culture Night [Sept 22, 2017]

In follow up to Welcoming the Stranger and continuing to work with Ireland's new communities, Catherine will premiere her new work Culture Night at Siamsa Tire. Commissioned by Siamsa Tire & Kerry County Council and supported also by The Arts Council, Creative Ireland & The Dept of Justice & Equality.


Audition Call Out [Aug 2017]

Catherine Young Dance is looking for highly skilled, physical dancers (male & female) with strong theatrical presence for a new creation for Spring 2018. Dancers should have a high level of contemporary technique, experience, stamina as well as strong background in improvisation, partnering and floor work.  

The dates for new creation (incl. performances) will be between Jan 22 – March 25 & Apr 11-13, 2018 in Ireland. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in day-long workshops Sept 28 & 29, 2017 in Dublin.

Welcoming the Stranger to open Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival, Palestine [April 2017]

Catherine will take a cast of Irish musicians and dancers out to Palestine to work with dancers from Sareyyet Contemporary Dance Company to restage the work "Welcoming the Stranger' to open the festival at the Municipal Theatre in Ramallah Thur 20 and will then go to the National Theatre in Jerusalem Fri 21.

Welcoming the stranger | Culture Night [Sept 16, 2016]

Following its huge success at Féile Fáilte, Welcoming the Stranger comes to Siamsa Tire, Culture Night. This moving and compelling dance piece with a cast of 25 performers (dancers and musicians) was originally commissioned by The Casement project and premiered at Féile Fáilte - Banna Strand, July 23rd 2016 as part of the 1916 Centenary celebrations.  Inspired by the stories of migrants and refugees all whom have made Kerry their home, Welcoming the Stranger is a coming together of people, cultures, their music dance and song and looks at the notion of welcoming & integrating 'the other' into our community. This dynamic and highly energetic show is not to be missed.

Auditions [Dec 2015]

Catherine Young Dance (Ireland) is looking for a number of highly physical female dancers to join the company for the creation and tour of a new work in 2016. Dancers should have a high level of contemporary technique, fitness and stamina as well as strong experience in improvisation, partnering and floor work. Looking for dancers with a minimum of 3 years experience dancing for a professional company/ies.

Rehearsals and creation will take place in Ireland between February 1-26 and March 21-April 21.

Tour dates: 10th April (Cork), 
14th-16th April (Dublin) & 
21st April (Limerick)

The Rhythm Project [Nov 2015]

Catherine will be creating new work on 5 percussive step dancers from the MA in Traditional Dance at the Univesrity of Limerick in collaboration with musician Martin Sharer. Each dancer comes from a different percussive tradition spanning the Sean Nos, competitive Irish Dance and Cape Breton styles - their common language, rhythm. A work in progress sharing will be held at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance Nov 17th, 2015.

Dublin Dance Festival 2015 | Ultima Thule  [May 2015]

Shawbrook Touring Company | Wins award in Austria  [March 2015]

Catherine's new work "See Me" for Shawbrook Touring Company picked up an award for choreography in Bad Ischl, Austria after its performance at the Kongresshaus March 28th. The piece will tour to Romania in July 2015.


Dublin Docklands "Mind Your Step" | Commission   [March 2015]
